represents the power and fragility of memory, immersing viewers and causing them to reflect on their own time spent in recollection. To me, this piece evokes feelings of caring for my mother in her later stages of life as she battled dementia: some aspects of the installation show moments of incredible clarity and create pathways to forgotten times with domestic items such as buttons; other aspects blend into the background and slip out of sight, barely there at all except for a shadow on the wall or a flash of golden lustre.

Explanation
This piece combines modern methods of mold making with traditional ceramics and vintage materials to create an installation that is a blend of the past and the present. 3D rendered shapes were printed and vacuum-formed to create the molds, which are cast in paper clay- a material that reminds me of the fragile nature of our skin as we age. Negative spaces in the clay are filled with my mother’s buttons or highlighted with golden lustre, and the forms are gently pinned to the wall, floating above their shadows to emphasize their lightness and temporary nature.
